Sony Ericson recently announced that the mobile business will be acquired by Sony Corp and will become its solely owned subsidiary. Well, what it means for the millions of Sony Ericson customers. Lets have a look.

Following is an extract from an email letter sent to all existing and registered Sony Ericson customers: –

Sony Ericson guarantees the same great service and support that they have been providing to their customers.

Some things won’t change at all. For example, your existing warranty will remain completely valid and you’ll still get the same great service and support that you’ve been used to. But you will see some important new benefits.

The acquisition means, more involvement of Sony and that in turn more percentage of Sony technology being used in the mobiles.

Your Sony Ericsson phone already features great Sony technology. But in future, you can expect even more leading-edge Sony capabilities – and easy connectivity with other Sony products including TVs, PCs and tablets to allow you to share content seamlessly across multiple screens. There will also be more opportunities to enjoy premium entertainment content from Sony including music and film services from the Sony Entertainment Network.

Sony xperia S, will be the first smart phone product from the Sony stable.

The first smartphone product from Sony, available this Spring, will be the new Sony Xperia™ S

Well… all the promises look good when they are made. But, what about security. What about the security of the contacts of the customers who buy Sony mobiles. Sony’s track record for user data security has been not so good during the last year. So, is there any guarantee that the same will not be repeated in their mobile operating system’s security features. These are questions that need some concrete answers. Only time will tell how the mobile division fares under full control of Sony. Till then it is a wait and watch for sure.
